When Minal, a passionate history lover from Pune, reached out to us, her curiosity was clear:
“I want to walk through a place where the past still breathes…” she said.
And we knew just the place — Chaul, the ancient village of legends, located just 150 km away from Pune in the heart of Alibag.
⛵ From Port to Prosperity – The Lost City of Chaul
Two thousand years ago, Chaul wasn’t just a quiet coastal village — it was an international port, buzzing with traders from Rome, Arabia, and the Far East. Silks, spices, coins, and culture changed hands here.
Today, the remnants still whisper tales — of prosperity, invasions, dynasties, and trade routes that once shaped this land.
As we guided Minal and her husband through the narrow lanes of the village, every stone, every pillar seemed to tell her a story. From ancient temples dating back 700 years, to the unique Portuguese and Maratha architecture, the explorer in her came alive.
🏰 Korlai Fort – A Time Capsule by the Sea
Our next stop was the majestic Korlai Fort, standing tall by the roaring sea. Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, later conquered by the Marathas, and eventually touched by the British Empire, this fort is a mosaic of history.
As the waves crashed against the stone walls, Minal stood still — almost hearing the footsteps of warriors and traders of the past.

We took her to a nature-friendly nursery, where biodiversity thrives in harmony with local village life. The fragrance of native herbs, the sound of birds, and the sight of butterflies added a serene contrast to the echoes of history.
